Anirban is passionate about storytelling. Poetry and travelling transfix his works in cinema to an alternative world of imagination. They create an observant existence, parallel to the audience. It was his father who inspired him initially through his poetry and prose works. Eventually, travelling has transformed his mind with immaculate possibilities of making films and composing narratives from constantly expanding imaginations and the very dynamic realities of life. His works diversify among a wide horizon of Non-Fiction, Fiction, Visual Arts, Shorts, Poetry, Photography, Creative Writing, Creative Travel et al. Among his works Jahnabi, Ghumjeeling : A Meeting by the Railways, We and Our Time, Home & Ahead are critically acclaimed and played worldwide. One of his recent works, i.e., “Anubhuti : A World of Her Own” is an atmospheric experience based on the 15th-century Indian poetess Meera Bai’s literature. ’Anubhuti’ is set to have its World Premiere in the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) 2024.
While reviewing his first film ‘Jahnabi’, High On Films wrote “It also places Dutta as a brave new voice in Indian independent filmmaking. Deftly realized, it is a condensed, sublime experiment that demands to be seen.”
His second film ‘Anubhuti’ explores several emotions of the 15th-century Indian poetess, Meera Bai through her eloquent literature and her dream-alike presence, i.e., Radha. ‘Anubhuti’ is set to have its World Premiere in the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) 2024.
His short film “Outside the Burning Ghats” made its place as one of the best #22 Submitted Works by Asian Movie Pulse in 2020. His works in travelling are featured and celebrated worldwide in National Geographic Traveler, Conde Nast, The Guardian, Outlook Traveller, BNNVARA to name a few. A Kyoto Filmmakers Lab 2021-22 fellow, he is currently working on his third film “Road to Kiarostami”.
