“An abstract Gesamtkunstwerk“
Meera embarks on a deep emotional journey as she paints vivid images of her eternal yearning for a sense of belongingness and connection with the divine or the self in her devastating reality. During this retrospective exploration, she realises her innermost desires and Radha’s dream-like essence becomes her enchanting medium, a reflection of ultimate fulfilment.
A medium through which she ardently conveys her devotion to the revered Lord, the enigmatic Krishna or a wish. Krishna breaks the conventional boundaries in the Hindu Mythology and subtly challenges the essence of love and affection. Drawing on Meera Bai’s transformative poetry combined with traditional Indian music, the narrative flows like an untamed river with tangible characters that would resonate even in today’s chaotic world, addressing modern dilemmas.

I have been experiencing a recurring theme in my dreams where I am able to perceive and accept the outcomes of events as living beings in a non-linear fashion. These dreams have left me with a sense of curiosity about what happens to the future of these beings or entities in reality after they come to life. My keen interest goes beyond merely remembering these dreams as memories; I often ponder whether they exist as distinct entities with their own lives and stories or get forsaken with the tide of time.
To explore and give voice to these musings and questions, I wrote ‘Anubhuti.’ This work serves as a constant testament to the presence of these dream-like entities, which seem to be abandoned once their circumstances change from being mere wishes to actualised realities. Anubhuti as a film also delves into the transition between a dream that remains unfulfilled and one that becomes reality, raising questions about the nature of this transformation.
In ‘Anubhuti,’ I have embarked on an exploration of the concealed layers of human emotions. I have exercised this through the use of engaging and performative dialogues among the characters that are influenced from our day-to-day lives, which also carry impressions of Godly figures. Anubhuti as a creative endeavour aims to uncover the complexity of human experiences and emotions as they relate to the interplay between dreams, wishes, and their ultimate fulfilment.
In essence, ‘Anubhuti’ has been an artistic journey for me that delves into the intricate and often perplexing dynamics of dreams and their impact on our emotional landscape, all while challenging our understanding of the boundaries between memory, fantasy, and the tangible realities that shape our lives.
“Anirban Dutta’s film “Anubhuti” is like a gentle breeze carrying the sound of wind bells, creating a soothing experience that one wishes would last forever. This wordless romantic musical is brought to life with the poetry of an ancient poetess, weaving a story that captivates with its simplicity.”
